AminetIdx v1.3 - Documentation
Introduction
------------
«AminetIdx» is a very powerfull and convenient tool for searching archives
into the Aminet INDEX files and then making your shopping.
The index is loaded into memory and parsed to be displayed in order into
directories and subdirectories and you can locate some archives that match
a filter in all or part of the index.
The filter applies on "File" and/or "Description", on "Age" using the
presets or a special value.
Then you can mark some archives you want to download, they will be copied
into a "Collect" window which contents can be saved as plain text, ftp-mail
text, or even AmFTP batch text to be imported directly into AmFTP.
At last, «AminetIdx» is freeware, but of course feel free to send me donations
or gifts >8-))
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's start with a description of the main window:
* the toolbar:
<Open> - open a new aminet index
<Parse> - parse the last opened index
<Mark> - copy the file into the collect list
<Collect> - open the collect window
<Config> - open the configuration window
* on the right, there is 4 gadgets displaying informations about:
the aminet index <Complete Aminet...>
the marked files <[number] marked>
the displayed selection, dir/subdir, number match of total and hidden
the displayed dir, number of subdirs and archives
* below are the dirs and subdirs lists:
theses list always begin by the parent directory to enable a selection on
entire 1st level aminet dir
* the display filter
<Pattern> - can be set empty or to something like '#?mui#?'
<For> - determines the pattern to be applied for 'file' and/or 'Desc.'
<Age> - is a preset gadget for age (any/recent/1-6months/1year/2years)
<Is> - to set a special value for maximum age
* the display list
the display can be sorted in any order you want by clicking on the
columns titles (click again to reverse)
doubleclick on files act like the mark toolbar button
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then let's have a look at the collect window:
* the toolbar:
<Clear>
remove any archives from the collect list
<Remove>
remove all selected archives from the collect list
<Exists>
to use this you must have somewhere on your harddisk an aminet
directory tree (this is a complete aminet dir and subdirs with your
downloaded files), and you must have set its location into the
settings. then the program will check you have not already this file
on your harddisk and ask you to remove it from the collect list.
<Save>
this will save the collect list contents as specified format
<Save format>
ASCII - save as plain text
'Dir File Size Age Description'
'biz/cloan PPUIText_nno.lha 22K 5 Nynorsk locale for Personal Paint'
'...'
Ftp-mail - save as ftp-mail text
'size huge'
'get pub/aminet/biz/cloan/PPUIText_nno.lha'
'...'
'quit'
AmFTP - save as AmFTP batch text (you can import directly on AmFTP)
'/ftp/aminet/pub/biz/cloan/PPUIText_nno.lha'
'...'
* the display list
it contains every files you have marked
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then let me explain the settings window:
[Aminet path & file]
first you can set the default for aminet
<Directory>
is the base of your harddisk aminet tree
<Filename>
is the default aminet index file
[Default filter]
then you can set the default pattern settings
<...> see the main window for description
[Miscellaneous]
<Parse at startup>
if set, the default index will be automatically parsed at startup
<AmFTP remote dir>
this is the directory of the site you use for downloading files from
aminet as set in AmFTP. (e.g. if you uses ftp.uni-paderborn.de it
should be set to "/ftp/aminet/pub/", please note well that '/' are
important at start and at end!!! This directory will be used to save
as AmFTP batch format
<Default save format>
set this to your prefered save format for collect list
<Save/Use/Cancel>
you probably already know how it works!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
At last, a word for toolbar images:
AminetIdx now uses toolbar.mcc and so enable you to create your own images
for the toolbars. The files are named as follow and must be placed in the
"Icons" dir:
Main.bsh - the normal image for main window
Main_G.bsh - the ghosted image for main window
Main_S.bsh - the selected image for main window
Collect.bsh - the normal image for collect window
Collect_G.bsh - the ghosted image for collect window
Collect_S.bsh - the selected image for collect window
You will find on this archive both "MagicWB" and "GlowIcons" style design, to
use one of it simply copy the preferred set into the 'Icons' directory.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have fun :)))
